Free "AI" trading robots
The AI collection gathers every file whose name says AI, neural, GPT, quantum or smart. The collection page itself says to treat the label as marketing until tested, and this post explains why: in a compiled file you cannot tell a neural network from a moving-average cross, and most of the time it is the latter.
What "AI" usually means in a free EA
- A normal indicator strategy with a new name. The most common case. The code is RSI, MACD or a grid; "AI" is in the file name and nowhere else.
- Parameter optimisation dressed as learning. Some EAs re-optimise their inputs on recent history. That is curve-fitting on a schedule, and it can be worse than fixed inputs.
- A small neural network with fixed weights. Rare, and it is still a fixed formula once compiled: the "learning" happened once, on the author's data, years ago.
- External API calls. An EA that calls a web service needs WebRequest permissions and an internet round trip per decision. Ask what it sends and what happens when the service is down.
None of these are visible from an .ex4 or .ex5. Only source code would show it, and source is not what gets shared under these names.
Red flags that cost nothing to check
- No losing trades in the backtest. A learning system would still lose sometimes. A straight line means a martingale or a test with future data.
- Inputs that do not match the story. An "AI" robot whose inputs are grid step, multiplier and max trades is a grid robot.
- Needs DLL imports. Legitimate strategies almost never do; a DLL is a way to hide what the EA does, or to phone home.
- Asks for WebRequest to an unknown URL. Check the URL. If you would not visit it, do not let the EA.
Test it exactly like any other EA
The label changes nothing about the process. Strategy Tester over years with real spread, equity drawdown before profit, demo for weeks. The demo guide applies word for word. If the result is good, it is a good EA regardless of what it is called. If it is bad, "AI" did not help.
A more useful kind of intelligence
Knowing exactly what your robot does is worth more than a label. Two ways to get there: buy the editable source in the vault and read it, or build the strategy yourself in the EA Builder, where every rule is a visible block. Related: trend EAs and scalpers, which is what most "AI" robots turn out to be.
Frequently asked questions
Do AI EAs actually learn?
Almost never in the way the name implies. A compiled EA is fixed code. At most it re-optimises inputs on recent data, which is scheduled curve-fitting.
Is ChatGPT-style AI used in these EAs?
A MetaTrader EA cannot embed a language model. Some call an external API through WebRequest, which adds latency, cost and a dependency on a third-party server.
Are AI EAs more profitable?
There is no evidence for that among free files. Test them with the same process as any EA and judge the numbers.
Why is this collection on the site at all?
Because people search for it. The page lists what the channel posts under those names and says plainly to treat the label as marketing.
